Recommended Citation
Properly citing and acknowledging data accessed from NatureCounts is essential. It allows us to track the use of the data, but more importantly, it provides due credit and recognition to the volunteers and researchers who collected and shared it.
If you are using data from NatureCounts, you must be familiar with our data sharing policy and the metadata for each dataset you are using. Please review all documents carefully, and contact the data owners for permission, collaboration, and review as required.
To cite data retrieved from NatureCounts:
Use the recommended citation included at the bottom of each dataset’s metadata, which can be found on the NatureCounts datasets page.
To cite NatureCounts tools or visualizations that use multiple datasets:
Birds Canada. <Year>. NatureCounts Data Explorer. Available at https://naturecounts.ca/nc/default/explore.jsp. Accessed on <Date>.
To cite the State of Canada’s Birds:
Look for the recommended citation included at the bottom of the report and each species account.
