The NL Short-eared Owl Survey is a long-termmonitoring project that collects important data on the distribution andpopulation trends of this charismatic species at risk and relies on theparticipation of volunteers like you! These volunteers drive a pre-determinedroute consisting of between 6 and 9 roadside stops in the open habitat favouredby Short-eared Owls twice each year. At each survey point, they stop andconduct a visual survey of the surrounding landscape for 5 minutes andnote all detections of Short-eared Owls, as well as several other species ofinterest. Volunteers are also asked to record detections of Short-eared Owlsbetween survey stops or before/after the survey period.
